Generation Y Stats: A Snapshot

 

Ever since Generation X ended up on the cover of Time Magazine in 1991, there has been a general state of understandable confusion about generational labels. Ask five demographers about the age range of, say, Generation Y, and you will likely get five different answers. To simplify things, our firm relies on definitions set by the U.S. Census Bureau. (After all, we might as well let our tax dollars work for us, right?)

The following is a snapshot of the generations as they existed in the year 2008:

Our firm is frequently asked by clients whether it's okay if they use different start/stop dates to define a particular generational label. The answer is "Of course!" However, it's paramount that the client team as well as all vendors are collectively working with the exact same definition.
